Status of Occupational Health Workers at Industries in the Seoul-Kyungki Area


Abstract
rvey on status of occupational health workers at industries in the Seoul-Kyungki area of Korea was carried out from May 14th to June 18th, 1986. Available subjects were 367 workers which had responded to the necessary questionaire.
Results of the survey were summarized as follows:
1. The 20-30 years age group of occupational health workers was 75.4%. 84.5% of the subjects were female workers and 23.2% of occupational health workers married.
2. Regarding the educational background of subjects, graduates of high school were 59.7%; graduates of technical college 4.4%, graduates of nursing school 19.6% and graduates of university 13.1%. .
3. There were 10.6% of the industries hold more than 1,000 regular workers while 62.6% of the industries hold less than 300 employee in scale of industry.
4. 96.2% of industries had treferal hospital and 46.0% of subjects had their office named health clinic. 5. The manned rate of manpower for occupational health is 59.3% for the Administrator of Safety and
Health (ASH), 59.9% for the Health Administrator (HA), 67.3% for the Occupational Health Workers
and 39.0% for the Personnel of Industrial Sanitation.
6. The exclusive responsibility rate of the manpower for occupational health is 80.8% for the ASH, 7.2% for the HA, 29.9% for the Occupational Health Workers and 18.8% for the Personnel of Industrial Sanitation.
7. The Occupational Health Workers were tarring four role activities. The Occupational Health Workers main activity score observed was To Take Care of the Labors (25.6), and the least role activity was To Improve Labor¢¥s Welfare in industries (4.6). They were also carrying their role on Industrial Health Administrative Acitivity (5.8) and performing role on Environmental Sanitation and Safety Control.
8. There were significant differences between the size of industry, type of industry and To Take Care of the Labors (p = 0.006, p = 0.002).
9. There were significant differences between the size of industry, type of industry and Industrial Health Administrative Activity (p=0.004, p=0.000).
